Your homework and session reports are all on your very own page - lucky you!
If you forget your address, username, or password, you can call, text, message, or email me.
The address (URL) of your page will look something like https://yourname.allansplace.ca.
Note: *You cannot search for your page on Yahoo!, Google, Duckduckgo, or anywhere else. Because of privacy, your page is not searchable online. You must enter it in the address bar of your web browser. Click the pic!
[photogallery/photo00011112/real.htm]It will ask you for your Username and Password. If you forget these, call, text, message, or email me. I'll remind you.
Can you change your password? As you can tell from the page you are now reading, this is kind of an old-fashioned website . There's no way of changing it automatically. Ask me, and I'll change it for you.
Finding & Printing Your Homework
Your homework is on your session report page under homework. See the pic below.
If your homework is in PDF form, at the top-right of your homework, you'll see a printer button.
Click it. Make sure it is set to your printer, not something else (like
Microsoft Print to PDF). Look at all the other settings. Does
everything look right? Click print.
Now what? When your homework is completed, see Sending Paper Homework.
To send your paper homework:
photo or scan: Once your homework is completed, you need to either scan it or take a
picture of it to send it.
Some scanners let you enter an email address so that it
will send automatically. Since every printer / scanner is different,
you'll have to figure that out on your own.
text: You can take a picture of it and text it to my phone. That's probably the simplest for you. My phone number is here.
email: You can email it. Go to your session summary page, and click email homework in the menu. Then, go to the folder with your completed homework and drag & drop it into the email. You can also click attachment in your email. Click send.
[photogallery/photo00010578/real.htm]online drives: You can send it into your Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive folder. Look for the links on your page. You will need a Microsoft or Google account. You can drag & drop or copy & paste your homework into your folder. (Don't confuse Google Drive with Google Docs.) Please let me know by text, email, messenger, etc. after sending it so that I can check it.
upload: You can upload your homework through the Upload homework page. Click select file, then upload file. Please let me know after sending it.
myfolder: This sets up a direct, secure connection on your computer to your homework folder on my computer. Isn't that neat! See Setup Myfolder On Your Computer for instructions.
FTP: What the heck is this? FTP is "File Transfer Protocol", an ancient technology. I believe the cavemen used it. Download an FTP client here. Once this FTP client is installed, click FTP folder in your page's menu. Ask me for help if you need it.
postal mail: For those of you who are doing long-distance learning, you can still send your completed chapters, book reports, etc. through the mail. If you forget my address, please call me.
pigeon: They used to send messages back and forth using pigeons. They'd tie little notes to their feet and hope the pigeon flies to where it supposed to go. Good luck with that.
Completing PDF Homework on Computer
If you don't have a printer (or even a pencil sharpener), you can do your PDF (Portable Document Format) homework on the computer. Here are some videos to help you.
To write on your screen and save as on your computer: complete PDF homework save as 20240118 001.mp4 Once completed, see Send Homework below.
To complete your homework on Bramble: completing PDF homework on Bramble 20240118.mp4 Please send me a text when you do this so I can look at it.
So how do you send it? See Sending Paper Homework or Setting Up Myfolder On Your Computer.
Online tutoring is done on Bramble, a whiteboard website.
Open Google Chrome, Microsoft
Edge, or any other browser.
Some browsers don't work, but most do.
Download Google Chrome.
Download
Microsoft Edge.
Click your Bramble link on your session summary page, or copy & paste into the address bar of Google Chrome - not the Google search bar!!!).
Enter your email address where you want Bramble to send our work.
Test your speakers, enable your microphone, and enable your webcam.
Your online session will begin at your normal class time. If you don't see me there, wait - I'll be there!
If you have trouble with connections, try Are You Ready To Bramble?
Mac: I know nothing about Apple products. Here is some help for Mac users.
Linux: For those who use Linux OS (like Ubuntu), here's more help. But if you're a Linux user, you likely already know, right?
Windows: Follow these (somewhat) easy steps.
If you would prefer to watch a video, click connect to MYFOLDER network drive 20240118 001.mp4.
3. In Folder, enter https://allansplace.ca/myfolder/yourname/new. Replace yourname with your first name (or your Username).
5. Check both boxes - Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials. Remember the letter drive. This is how you'll connect each time when all this is done. Click Finish.
4. A Windows Security window should come up.
On older Windows computers, click More choices, then Use different account.
Enter your Username and Password.
Click Okay. A window showing all your assignments should come up.
Close it. Setup is done.
5. When you want to
upload your homework,
go to that folder.
Press the Windows
button on your keyboard, type in this pc,
and press Enter. Or, press
Windows E.
This is where you can drag and drop your homework.
top Depending on the homework, you can also complete it online, like
without paper, PDFs, or uploading anywhere. Not all homework is available
this way, though. If you like this more than on paper, let me know, and
I'll make it happen.
Here is an example. There's nothing else you have to do aside from
completing the homework and pressing Send. Stuck? Quick Assist is Microsoft's remote assistance app.
It allows me to
connect to your computer from anywhere to help you (much better than phone instructions). Call,
text,
message, or
email
me to get things started. Quick Assist will ask you for a 6-digit number,
which I will give you. Pretty easy. If you have
Windows 10, press the Windows button, then type Quick... The
icon should pop up. For those of you on Macs,
you can click here. I've never tried it before because I don't have a
Mac. But I would like to know if it works! For Linux users: we can try
TeamViewer or
AnyDesk.
Quick Assist
It requires both
your permission and my permission to connect each time.
